Can you tell us about your sporting career and how you became an ambassador for Gourmiz?

My name is Gabin Ageron, I'm 24 years old and although I'm originally from the Maurienne in Savoie, I currently live in Font Romeu in the Pyrenees, a fantastic playground for outdoor sports. I've done a lot of different sports, but now I'm more focused on trail running with the Craft team.

I started with downhill skiing for many years before discovering endurance sports. I then moved on to running, triathlon and, more intensively, ski mountaineering and trail running.

This year I've decided to prepare fewer objectives, but to do it better, and so concentrate solely on trail running.

What do you love about your sport and how do you integrate it into your daily life?

Being in the mountains and discovering new places all the time! I've always lived in the mountains, so I love being outdoors and on the move. The sports I practice allow me to go far relatively quickly and discover new places, and that's great! Although it's not my job, my daily life revolves around training and sport, so it fits in quite naturally.

What motivated you to become an ambassador for Gourmiz?

As nutrition is once again key to endurance performance, having the best possible products is important. So having help in this area is an asset, and when Gourmiz asked me to be part of the team, I immediately accepted! It means I can be supported with excellent products whose quality is beyond doubt. On top of that, I want to represent brands that share some of my values, and Gourmiz is a French company on a human scale, so I'm happy to put them forward.

As an athlete, how do you manage your diet during periods of intense competition?

Nutrition is crucial to performance, and even more so in endurance sports, where power-to-weight ratio is a very important performance factor. However, we can quickly go to extremes and under-eat to the detriment of performance. Being the lightest isn't everything; you need a minimum of strength.

That's why I try to eat as well-balanced a diet as possible, taking in everything without restricting yourself and enjoying yourself without overindulging. During periods of high training load, it may be worthwhile to take care to provide the macro-nutrients needed for recovery, so protein supplements may be an option.

How do Gourmiz's values correspond to your own values as an athlete?

As an athlete, I try to eat as healthily as possible on a daily basis, avoiding processed products as much as possible. It's the same when I'm exercising. If I can consume as many products as possible like Gourmiz, which are organic, of transparent composition and of good quality, I'm not going to deprive myself!

What have been the greatest challenges you've faced in your sporting career, and how have you overcome them?

I hope it goes on for as long as possible, but despite a lot of injuries, I've never had anything too major. So I'd say that for the time being I haven't had any particular challenges to overcome, other than trying to be the best I can be, and above all constantly trying to do everything I can to be so and not regret anything. It's more of a daily challenge to do everything at once, with some concessions, but without going overboard either.

What achievements are you most proud of, and what role has nutrition played in these successes?

After several close calls, I had the opportunity to make several selections for the French U23 ski mountaineering team and to race in the World Cup, and I think I'll keep these selections, especially the first one, in my memory for a while. Nutrition is a key factor in performance, and I think at that point I managed to have a sufficiently balanced and complete diet to perform well, I had found a certain balance.
What are your sporting objectives for the coming months or years?
This season, the main objectives will initially be the mountain race circuit up to the French championship, then longer race formats with two main targets, the Mont-Blanc marathon and Sierra Zinal. The end of the season has not yet been set, but a race like the Skyrhune could be on the agenda.
